By investing in training your team you will not only cultivate a positive culture, you will improve the skills of your team and grow your business in the long run. Whatever your industry, and whatever your skill level, there is always more to learn! Through team training, including your team with planning and strategy, and getting to know those in your business through things like DISC, you’ll have key ingredients for long-term business growth.
Tracking Performance
I track the time I spend doing Masterclasses or Coaching learning lessons with ActionCOACH. This allows me to see the difference that training makes to my performance and the value it adds.
This is a great tool for business owners. Whatever area you are developing with your team’s training, you can track performance over time. This can help to guide decisions regarding future development days and whether you are in fact investing enough time into them.
Structure and Plan for Team Training
Having a well thought-out structure and plan for training days is vital if you are going to get the most from them. What sort of things can you focus on?
- Improving the operational element of your business.
- Developing the team (bonding, mindset, etc.).
- Providing a platform to learn (online sessions, speakers, etc.).
- Focussing on a particular area (time management, how to be a good leader, etc.)
Impact of Team Training on Growth
A team that is constantly developing in important areas has lots of benefits for a business. The quality of the team will improve, raising the level of work as well as efficiency, your team will feel motivated to continue developing, and it will feel invested in and valued.
All of these factors contribute towards continuous improvement and growth for a business. A happy team will do better work, and it will attract more employees with the same motivated mindset for development.
Concerns
Some business owners approach team development with suspicion. Isn’t it expensive? Is it not more valuable for my team to invest their time in something else?
These are common questions, but the concerns are misguided. Having days where you can break up the routine of everyday working life with something different is great for morale. A bit of variety goes a long way! As a result there will be a positive workplace environment, and the value of this will become clear in the long-run. Whilst it may pay in the short term to focus little on development, instead investing in things that will earn money quickly, investing in training is a far more profitable long term option.
Think about your business; do you have the right balance of work and development? Do you have a structured and coherent training plan? Could you do more development?
